In the next few installments of our series on essay topics examples, we will look at the actual words used in the definitions, their proper spelling, and their intended meaning. Essay Topics ExamplesDefinition essay topics are usually a challenge in any essay, especially a writing course. The three criteria necessary for a good definition essay topic are clarity, accurate statement of the topic, and purposeful construction of the definition. While one can find many examples of definitions on the internet, it is easy to make the topic look false by oversimplifying. This is of course the biggest concern: If the definition is clearly stated, it is obvious what meaning is intended. But too many writers will create a definition which is vague or unclear, which creates confusion, but seems to have a meaning which is not obvious. They will even write a definition that lacks a clearly defined meaning. The second thing that is crucial in defining a topic is to ensure that the meaning is accurat ely stated. An 'assumption' can easily be misunderstood by a reader. The most popular 'assumption' definition is the definition of corporate jargon, because this implies that anyone who understands the 'corporate jargon' is immediately a skilled worker. However, the definition is clearly stated. The next issue is a lack of clarity in the definition. One of the most common things that happens in writing a definition is a writer beginning a sentence by stating the importance of their definition, without ever really defining it. But how do you establish a clear definition? One great way is to place the definition on a separate page, which has a table of contents and author information. The definition then will not only look clear but also be easily accessed, allowing the writer to read the definition in a few seconds.Writing a definition involves at least two kinds of words. One is commonly referred to as a 'word.' The other is a 'phrase.' Although a word is not a specific letter or sou nd, a phrase is. The first form of the word is usually easier to deal with in writing a definition. It often contains only a few words, while the second form of the word has a few words but many possible meanings. The biggest problem with dictionary definitions is that they do not make the topic clear. They often do not even make sense. Although a dictionary definition may describe a thing, it often does not make a statement about the thing. Dictionary definitions often will have an example, but this can be misleading. The definitions do not contain examples of the thing in question.
